TEAM TENNIS

How It Works

Team Tennis is a social event (with a competitive edge!) and is aimed at broadening the members playing and social circle in the club. It’s a great way for new members to get to know other members in the club – it’s very common for players to arrange social games with their opposition after the event is over.

The club normally runs two Team Tennis events per year in Spring and Autumn.  It is an internal club competition consisting of 5-6 mixed doubles per team with each pairing graded i.e. best players at level 1 and so on.

Format and Rules

  1. Mixed Doubles Tennis (mostly!) – consists of 21 short games
  2. The first point after deuce wins the game
  3. At deuce, if the man is serving then he serves to the opposing man; if the the lady is serving then she serves to the opposing lady
  4. Handicaps of +15 will apply where a team is 3 games ahead, +30 for 6 games, +40 for 9 games
  5. Scoring is 1 point per game won, which goes towards your overall team score regardless of whether you win or lose your match!
  6. All team’s points are totalled on a weekly basis
  7. Prizes will be awarded to the winning and runner up teams!

fast 4 tennis

Doubles Tournament

The Club runs a number of Fast4 tournaments during the year. It’s fun, fast and competitive! Fast4Tennis is for players from beginner to league player.

FAST4 Tennis is an exciting way to speed up a conventional tennis match. The fundamentals of tennis remain the same, but there are four rules that ensure matches are fast, competitive, exciting and can be completed in a reasonable period of time.

Format and Rules

  1. First to four games wins: The first to four games wins! It doesn’t matter how you get there, just make sure you do before your opponent does!
  2. No advantage scoring: If the score reaches deuce, it’s a sudden death point. The receiver choses which side to take the serve on.
  3. Tie breaker at 3 games all: At 3 games all a tiebreak is played to 5 points. A deciding point will be played at 4 points all.
  4. Play lets: If the serve clips the net and lands in the service box, there’s no let and the ball is in play.
